Born in Scotland, the son of a coal miner and bus conductress, I am an immigrant in America. Aren’t we all immigrants in America? The American Dream called my parents across the ocean and I feel the dream still holds a promise to the world. We are many, we are one, a melting pot beneath the sun united in the spirit of culture and love. Songs run through my family’s bones. Celebrating an oral culture–they smoked, they drank, they sang. Now, ripened, wizened, and semi-retired from a life-changing, day-job teaching Special Education students in East Harlem, New York, I resume my calling to “celebrate the terror and beauty of the Earth in Song.” Every life story deserves telling. I tell mine through song. Welcome.
